Should We Change Legal Drinking Ages?

US change legal drinking age to 21.Teens and young adults often complain that the legal drinking age of 21 is unfair and they lobby for the government to lower the legal drinking age. Their claims that they are adults at 18 some even using the fact that they can do other adult things such as voting, and military service seems to back their statements that other adult activities should be allowed as well. The problem with this theory is that drinking, unlike voting, or military service serves to greatly impair function of their minds and physical responses, as well as often putting others in danger if they are not in control of their drinking.

DUI Star Back From The Dead?

Michelle Rodriguez who was arrested for DUI back on LostNew York - Michelle Rodriguez is returning to Lost.

As if the show needed more hype.

Of course, details of her comeback are few and far between but these are some of the tantalizing tidbits Entertainment Weekly has revealed (Spoiler alert! Read at your own risk!).

Rodriguez is back for one episode, probably the second of next season. Since her character Ana Lucia’s body was riddled by bullets — thanks to Michael — it’s safe to assume she will be returning in someone’s flashback of via hallucination, similar to fellow Tailie, Libby (Cynthia Watros). The second episode of the season is rumoured to be one devoted to Hurley; the big lug may have an encounter with Ana Lucia’s ghost, similar to the one he had with Charlie last season.

Should The Legal Drinking Age Be Lowered?

drinking age 18 21New York - The debate is raging hot across America everywhere between the local office water cooler to national forums like major 24 hour news networks.

The United States legal drinking age of 21 has been in place in all 50 states since the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984, but recently a group called the Amethyst Initiative has brought fresh debate and challenge to the law.

The group had by this most recent Friday gathered 129 highly placed college officials who signed a petition calling for national law makers to "revist" the drinking age of 21.

The United States has the highest drinking age in the world just above Japan and Iceland, and yet we have some of the highest incidents of accidents and deaths associated with binge drinking and other underage drinking incidents.

Colleges Debate Drinking Age

change drinking in US to 18New York - On Thursday, the Washington Post ran an article that indicated that some college Presidents are pushing Congress to reconsider the drinking age and open debate on the subject. But, if you are going to disagree with 119 college and university Presidents, you should probably have a good reason; you can read their reasons here. Mothers Against Drunk Driving ("MADD") disagree and you can read their reasons here - it is pretty much the text-book on why the drinking age is what it is. (a quick aside: the MADD site proclaims that the 21 drinking age is estimated to have "saved" 25,000 lives since 1984; a) how is it even possible to calculate this number??? and b) only 25,000? in 24 years?

Lower The Drinking Age To 18?

college drinking age loweredNew York - Colleges and universities across the U.S. are in support of lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18.

The leaders from over 100 colleges and universities have joined for the push to lower the drinking age.

* The current law has not prevented alcohol from being available, and drinking is widespread at all American colleges, and at younger ages as well. But at colleges and universities, the law does have other effects: it pushes drinking into hiding, heightening its risks, including risks from drunken driving; and it prevents us from addressing drinking with students as an issue of responsible choice. ~Richard H.
