Should We Change Legal Drinking Ages?

US change legal drinking age to 21.Teens and young adults often complain that the legal drinking age of 21 is unfair and they lobby for the government to lower the legal drinking age. Their claims that they are adults at 18 some even using the fact that they can do other adult things such as voting, and military service seems to back their statements that other adult activities should be allowed as well. The problem with this theory is that drinking, unlike voting, or military service serves to greatly impair function of their minds and physical responses, as well as often putting others in danger if they are not in control of their drinking.

Young people are often not the best judges of how much they can handle and even 21 can be too young as is often proven by accident and DUI reports. Lowering the legal drinking age from 21 will only make those figures worse as younger and younger individuals are allowed to make a decision about how much they can drink and still handle themselves reasonably.

Some say that young people under 21 will still drink whether it is legal or not, so why not make it legal. People still shoot each other even though it is not legal too but that isn’t a good reason to make it okay to do it. Young people have a lot to learn in regards to control and they need to learn it while not under the influence before they can learn how to control their urges when faced with the legal ability to drink.
